A Busy Week of Custom Orders and Two New Pieces
It’s been another busy week in the studio, although this week a lot of my time has been spent working on some lovely custom orders.
I really enjoy custom work. There’s something so nice about taking someone’s idea, especially when there’s a special meaning behind it, and turning it into a piece of jewellery they can keep and wear.
With most of my making time going into those orders, I haven’t had quite as much time to work on new pieces for the website this week. But I have managed to make and list two new designs.
Solid Gold Pebble Stud Earrings
The first is a pair of solid gold pebble stud earrings, handmade from recycled 9ct gold.
These actually started as little scraps of gold left over from previous pieces. Rather than letting those scraps go to waste, I melted them down into tiny balls of gold and shaped them into a pair of small pebble studs.
Because they’re formed by hand, they have a lovely organic shape and no two will ever be completely identical. I really love the idea of turning those tiny leftover pieces of gold into something that can be worn every day.
Silver Wildflower Trio of Discs Necklace
The second piece is my new silver wildflower trio of discs necklace.
This necklace is handmade from recycled sterling silver and features three little silver discs, each with a wildflower pattern. I added the texture to the silver using my rolling mill before cutting, shaping and finishing each disc by hand.
The three discs hang together from a silver chain, creating a simple necklace with plenty of texture and detail.
So, while it hasn’t been a big week for new designs, I’m really pleased with the two pieces I have managed to add.
Next week I’m hoping to have a little more time at my bench to experiment and see what ideas come to me!
