New Jewellery, Surfite & the Summer Holiday Juggle
Share
The summer holidays are well and truly here, and this week I’ve definitely been feeling the juggle of trying to work while having the kids at home!
I went into the week with lots of ideas and plans for things I wanted to make, but as is often the case during the school holidays, I haven’t managed to get quite as much studio time as I’d hoped. Trying to fit work around family life can be tricky, and some days have definitely been more productive than others.
That said, I have still managed to squeeze in some making time and there are a few lovely new pieces to show for it.
One of my new pieces is a Surfite heart necklace. I always love working with Surfite because every piece is completely different. The layers of colour mean you never quite know what you’re going to uncover, and this heart has a gorgeous mix of bright colours running through it. I’ve set it by hand in recycled Sterling Silver to let the Surfite really stand out.
I’ve also made a new sunflower necklace, featuring one of my handmade silver pebbles. I make the pebble from recycled Sterling Silver before stamping the little sunflower design into the surface. I love the slightly uneven shape of these pebbles, as no two ever turn out exactly the same.
And finally, there are some new organic silver earrings. These have a lovely handmade feel to them, with each pair being individually made from recycled Sterling Silver. I really like designs like these where the shapes and textures don’t need to be perfectly uniform. The little differences are part of what makes handmade jewellery special.
So, while it might not have been quite as productive a week as I had planned, I’m pretty happy with what I’ve managed to make!
I’m trying to accept that the summer holidays are always going to mean a slightly different pace of working. Before I know it September will be here, the kids will be back at school and I’ll hopefully have a little more uninterrupted studio time again.
For now, I’m embracing the juggle and making when I can!
